Yannick Bisson on the staying power of 'Murdoch Mysteries'

March 20, 2016 - torontosun

To the naked eye, it doesn't appear Yannick Bisson has aged much through nine seasons of Murdoch Mysteries.

But the man himself obviously would have a more intimate view.

“The tone of the show, our hair, all those different little things, you see early episodes and you go, 'Oh my God, look at us, we were babies!' ” said Bisson, who plays Detective William Murdoch. “Jonny (Harris, who plays Constable Crabtree) is now the age that I was when we started the show.

“I have the original Murdoch poster down in the basement. I don't go down there any more.”

Vague references to Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray notwithstanding, the ninth-season finale of Murdoch Mysteries airs Monday, March 21 on CBC.

At the recent Canadian Screen Awards, Bisson won the Fans' Choice Award. At the end of his acceptance speech, he announced that Murdoch Mysteries is coming back for a 10th season.

“I don't know if you remember, but there weren't many period shows on the landscape,” said Bisson, recalling when Murdoch Mysteries – which is set in Toronto in the early 1900s – debuted on City in 2008.
