Weekly Update from Kelly Graham-Scherer, Los Angeles Representative: March 24, 2016

Happy Easter everyone,

I'm sending this report a little early in advance of the Good Friday holiday.

This has been a relatively quiet week, with the exception of the following story which blew up across the media a few days ago and could have a huge impact on the service production industry. As detailed in the Los Angeles Timesbelow, the Walt Disney Co. is threatening to no longer film in the state of Georgia if an anti-gay bill is signed into law there.

The Times also published the results of Deloitte’s 10th Digital Democracy Survey which shed some light on modern millennials' media consumption. As detailed below, 46% of Americans subscribe to at least one streaming video service and 70% of respondents binge watch an average of five episodes in one sitting, with 35% of millennials doing so on a weekly basis.

Finally this week, I'm gratified to include news that Cinespace Toronto has launched an (almost) new initiative to provide rent-free studio space to projects involving “culturally important Canadian stories” or rising Canadian talent.Playback has details below.

You'll find the full text for the linked articles below my signature. Please feel free to distribute this e-mail widely and to get in touch with comments or links for inclusion.

Have a very happy Easter. I'm spending next week on holiday with family members visiting from Ontario, so this report will return in two weeks, on Friday, April 8th.

Warmest regards,
