As a Permittee, you are fully represented under the NABET 700-M UNIFOR/CMPA Collective Agreement and you are eligible to work under the jurisdiction of NABET 700-M UNIFOR after all available Members have been considered for work opportunities.
We are busiest starting in the late Spring through to December so this is the optimal time for you to accumulate your Permittee fees, which will bring you one step closer to becoming a full fledged Member of NABET 700-M UNIFOR.
Tip #1 – Call in your availability
Only those who call in their availability will be called for work.
It is imperative to notify our Crewing Department of your work availability. When work opportunities become available for Permittees, our Call Stewards will reach out to only those who have logged in their availability.
You will not be required to call in your availability every day. We ask that both Permittees and Members call in their availability once a week ie. “I’m available from Tuesday of this week until the following Tuesday” or “I am available Monday, Tuesday and Saturday for this upcoming week”.
Crewing Department Contact and Hours of Operation:
Tel: (416) 536-4827 ext. 245
Mondays to Fridays - 7:00AM – 11PM
Saturdays - 10AM-10PM
Sundays - 11AM-11PM
Further, it is important that you maintain accurate contact records at our office (ie. address, phone, e-mail, etc.) otherwise, you will hinder your chances of getting called for work opportunities, and being kept up to date on important Union matters.
Tip #2: Up-to-date Resumes
It is important to always keep an updated resume on file so that when and if you are considered for work, you have a current resume to showcase your abilities and experience. Call Stewards are frequently asked to provide resumes for potential hires and often times do not have updated resumes on file to share. If you wish to keep an updated resume in your file, please email the Office your resume.
How to apply for a Second Category
Permittees may be listed in two (2) different departments. To apply for a second department, please review the specific Applicant Department Criteria page on our website and submit to the office a completed Permittee Application package for the second category you are interested in.
Please note that you are not required to resubmit your NABETiquette certificate or your Ministry of Labour Health and Safety certificates with your application for a Second Category. If you have any further questions, please contact the Membership Services Coordinator, Nicole Matthews.
When Permittees work on a NABET 700-M UNIFOR signatory production, 7% working dues are automatically deducted from each paycheque that is managed through the production payroll. Once you have accumulated a minimum of $2,000 in Permittee fees, you will be eligible for membership but you do not automatically become a full Member. You will be accepted once your file has been reviewed, approved by the Union, and have also complied with all department specific criteria.
Please note that you will continue to pay the 7% working dues until you attend an Initiation Meeting where you will then be sworn into the Union as a new Member. Permittee fees accumulated at any time are non-refundable.
For Permittees who are listed in two departments, you must accumulate $2,000 in one department to be eligible for membership. Please note that you cannot combine Permittee fees from separate departments to meet the $2,000 requirement. After you have been successfully sworn into membership and you would like to add a second category as a Member, you must then seek approval through the Second Category process for Members.
Thank you for visiting our website and welcome to NABET 700-M UNIFOR. We are proud to have you with us.
