How to Join

Are you interested in becoming part of the conversation?

The committee is open to any Member who identifies as female or has a gender identity other than cis* man, and we invite you to join the NABET 700-M UNIFOR Women’s Committee.

*Cis-gender: denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender corresponds to their birth sex.

Our strength lies in numbers so we encourage more Members to join and voice their opinions and ideas, in order to have a better representation and understanding of the Membership.

The committee typically holds meetings on a quarterly basis (4 times a year) and if you are concerned about the time commitment – please note that Members can contribute and donate time that is available to them. Between meetings, Members communicate and share information with each other using our online Slack channel.

Please note as per the NABET 700-M UNIFOR Bylaws and Unifor Nationals’ Constitution, only Members are able to be a part of any Union Committees. However, the Women’s Committee is looking into ways to create initiatives and social events that will allow Permittees to partake and be a part of the conversation. If you have any ideas or input, please feel free to reach out to the Co-Chair/Training Coordinator, Amber Munro, at the office at 416-536-4827, ext. 222.

Women’s Representative and Anti-Harassment

In 2019, NABET 700-M UNIFOR made history by successfully negotiating the position of an on set Women’s Representative in our Collective Agreement, which is the first of its kind, to assist women with concerns of harassment and violence in the workplace. Further, the Union was able to secure an additional $1/hour for Members who fulfill the role.

In support of the Union’s Women’s Representative role, the Women’s Committee worked diligently to develop and produce an Anti-Harassment brochure to help publicize the role and create awareness about workplace harassment. This brochure is available to our Membership and is also distributed at various educational outreach and industry events. We congratulate the Women’s Committee on their efforts and dedication! Below you can find both a web and printable version.

SPOTLIGHT: WOMEN IN OUR MEMBERSHIP

It is important for us as a labour union to not only address concerns and issues our female identifying Members face in the industry but to also highlight and share their successes as well. We would like to shine a spotlight on women in non-traditional roles in the hopes of raising awareness to assist in enacting change to create more diversity behind the camera.

NABET 700-M UNIFOR Grip Member, Felicia Sims, was highlighted on the TV Junkies website and spoke about diversity behind the scenes. She has been extremely successful in a male-dominated department and we are so proud to have her as a Member.
